WE FEEL THE WORLD THROUGH THE SKIN.
IT IS THE ESSENTIAL ORGAN THE BODY USES FOR CONNECTING WITH OUR PHYSICAL PLANET AROUND US.
You touch, feel, & connect to the elements with your skin.
Cold spring water, a strong breeze, soft silky sand, a loved one's skin, warmth from a crackling fire, a snuggle with a soft furry friend.
All the above with your three beautiful layers of skin.
THE SKIN EATS. BREATHES. LIVES. HAS BEAUTY AND BALANCE.
Most underestimate the skin's importance with its connection with your inner world (your glorious body) and the outer one (the amazing world) you perceive.
Much of the inner balance (or imbalance) of the body can be seen outwardly through the skin (ie. digestive imbalance, liver imbalance, systemic inflammation, hormone imbalance).
What you eat (food sensitivities, crappy food-like substances), your emotions and stress, can all affect your skin (we will be going into depth with this in future blog posts.)
Your laundry detergent (touching your clothes and sheets you sleep on), your dish soap, shampoo, even toxic air fresheners, candles etc.
All of the above can have an affect on the communication with your skin.
MANY CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES CONTAINED IN COMMERCIAL SKIN/BODY & PERSONAL CARE SHOULDN'T INTERACT WITH OUR SKIN.
With so many aspects of beauty and skin touching us every day, the overwhelming sea of products around us can be confusing.
ARE INGREDIENTS IN CONVENTIONAL PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS HARMFUL?
It can depend.
Some companies use ingredients that have been linked to cause cancer or that are associated with developmental problems.
Many cosmetic ingredients and chemicals contained within them are designed to penetrate the skin (they are of a small enough particle size and that is how they sneak into the bloodstream). We don't absorb 100% of what we put on our skin, and that is the beauty of it as a protective barrier. Although...many harmful chemicals are made to sneak through the dermis and can sneak into the bloodstream if we aren't label watching. And there is where some of the damage can begin. When risky and unstudied chemicals are used in cosmetics, the stakes are high. (3) Label checking is a must.
THE FDA DOESN'T REGULATE THE PERSONAL CARE INDUSTRY HEAVILY. THE UNITED STATES ONLY BANS 11 CHEMICALS FROM PRODUCTS WHERE AS EUROPE BANS 1,371. (2)
“Safe”, “organic” and “natural” does not mean your products do not contain any toxic chemicals and substances. You need to be an avid label reader for your health. According to the President’s Cancer Panel only 10% of cancer is genetic and 90% is caused by environmental factors. (2) Your personal and home care products may contain (from shampoo to antibacterial wipes to makeup) carcinogenic ingredients, neurotoxins, endocrine disruptors and allergens that can be downright hazardous to your health.
