Ways to support your breast health can come easy as a few modifications or awarenesses in your lifestyle.

  • Do a breast massage & examination once a month (or have a partner do it). This is a valuable tool in helping clear the lymphatic fluid.

  • Avoid wearing underwire bras, overly tight bras, and try to “free” the breasts everyday to move lymphatic tissue. Especially at night. Try to go without a bra as much as possible. The pectoralis muscle will firm and tighten the breast area so they don’t feel uncomfortable to move around. If you can’t go without a bra, try to do 10 jumping jacks a day without a bra.

  • Listen to your body and understand to clearly be aware of your body’s unique constitution. This includes the right diet for you, stress management, sleep, and daily routines & lifestyle that make you feel healthy. If you aren’t tapped into you, hire someone to help you.

  • Avoid antiperspirant deodorants & and aluminum products. The active ingredient in antiperspirants, common forms are aluminum chlorohydrate (in roll-ons and aerosols) and aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex GLY (in solids). These compounds plug the sweat glands, temporarily preventing perspiration, allowing the buildup of toxins. There is also talk that aluminum can mimic estrogen, which can be a causative factor in breast cancer. Look for natural deodorants or sprays (be careful to check ingredients, as many “natural or organic” brands do contain aluminum. Main point, you want to sweat, it was designed in your armpit area for a reason, and clogging with anti-persprirants can have a detrimental effect on your overall health. Other sources of aluminum to watch for are cans of beverages, food, medication, and body washes, shampoos.

  • Reduce toxic load of diet, cleaners, body soaps and products, laundry detergent. It is best to stick with non-toxic body products. Stay away from parabens, excess plastics, aluminum, chemical fragrances.

  • Look into Thermography as a substitute for Mammography. The NIH reported that many mammograms can save lives, but can be an invasive prevention tool. A carefully conducted systematic review and other observational studies have found that screening does not decrease the incidence of advanced cancers, whether defined as those larger than 20 mm or belonging to higher stages. One study reported an 8% decline in late-stage cancer over 30 years, but that could easily have been caused by greater breast cancer awareness. In Denmark, for example, the average tumour size decreased by 9 mm in just 10 years, which was before screening was introduced. One of the largest and longest studies of mammography to date, involving 90,000 women followed for 25 years, found that mammograms have absolutely NO impact on breast cancer mortality.

  • Herbs can help balance the breast tissue area. Herbs that help breast tissue are dandelion, fennel, fenugreek, cinnamon, ginger, saffron, and shatavari. They help to prevent toxin buildup around the breast tissue. These are anti-inflammatory herbs and can be worked into a healthy lifestyle through cooking, herbal teas etc. Note: These are not appropriate for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

  • Addressing emotional and spiritual health can help keep your breast tissue healthy. Many practitioners have also found breast masses resolve on their own with emotional and spiritual healing. Our heart is a deep emotional center, and in addition to examining physical ailments with breast changes, examining emotional health any time breast changes arise can be helpful.

  • Additional best breast practices include: dry brushing, using natural/non- toxic body products, ensuring excellent nutrition including dietary iodine and magnesium, caffeine balance (know your limit, too much can cause breast fibroids), balanced intestinal flora with fermented foods and probiotics, eating organic, real food, and only caring for your body with authentic, organic botanicals.
